The report says that 74 billion social apps are downloaded to date with 4.7 billion downloads in the first half of 2021 alone. 

Apart from the downloads, the in-app spending on social media applications by people has also increased tremendously. $22.2 billion has been spent on social apps to date with the Asian countries alone contributing more than $10 billion. 3.2 billion dollars has been spent by users in H1 2021 alone, which is a 50% increase in YoY.  App Annie projects that the in-app spending will amount to $6.78 billion this year and will reach a massive $78 billion by the year 2025. These data points reveal that apps that are focusing to adopt various e-commerce options will have a boom leading to multiple revenue streams and opportunities for brands and influencers. 

Video content is at the forefront of the evolving social landscape with live streaming setting fuel for future growth. The total time spent on social media applications that emphasize live streaming has surpassed half a trillion hours on Android. The apps have also outpaced its other content elements like chat and photos. The outbreak of COVID-19 has made these live stream videos the replacement for social outings during the lockdown.
