Google Search Completely Kills the Cache Feature
Posted By Gaurav | 25-Sep-2024 | Google UpdatesThe company has been preparing for this for the last few months. Google dropped the cache links 9 months ago and added Wayback machine 2 weeks ago before completely stopping the Cache operator. It’s most probably because Google waited for Wayback machines to be added as an alternative before removing the cache.
This is not a shocking update as we were expecting this since the beginning of the year 2024 when the cache links were removed. At that time, the Google Search liaison Danny Sullivan stated, “You’re going to see cache: go away in the near future, too. But wait, I hear you ask, what about noarchive? We’ll still respect that; no need to mess with it. Plus, others beyond us use it.”
Now, it has finally gone. As Google removes cache, the links have been added to the internet archive. On September 11, 2024, Google announced that the links to Internet Archive are added to Google search.
A Google spokesperson stated, “We know that many people, including those in the research community, value being able to see previous versions of webpages when available. That’s why we’ve added links to the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine to our ‘About this page’ feature.”
The links have been added to the Wayback machines, which resolves most of the complaints regarding Google removing the cache link. However, it doesn’t completely resolve the queries around how Google sees your pages.
